The National Railway Mazdoor Union on Tuesday observed Bonus Day at the gate of the Margao railway station.
The Union has threatened to stop the running of trains for two hours as a mark of protest on October 22 if the Centre does not accept the demand for the payment of productivity-linked bonus to the railway employees.
Members of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation and the National Railway Mazdoor Union participated in the Bonus meeting at the Margao railway station gate.
Working president of the Union, Krishna Kumar Shet, said that the railway employees have been getting the bonus since 1979 as a matter of right, adding that they have been working in the frontline.
“Since 1979, the railway employees have been getting the productivity-linked bonus as a matter of right. The central government has now decided to stop the bonus, which is not acceptable to the employees,” he said.
Saying that Union members are discussing with the centre on the issue of bonus, he said the employees across the country would halt work for two hours on October 22 if the centre does not pay
heed to the demands of the employees for the productivity linked bonus.
The Union also opposed the privatization plan of the
Centre, saying this will go against the interest of the common man.
