The South Goa District Road Safety Committee on Tuesday set deadlines to various authorities, including the traffic and PWD National Highway, to get the status on various pending issues, including repairs of roads, installation of signages etc.
Chaired by Committee Chairman, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, members of the panel deliberated on a host of issues such as vehicles being driven on the beaches of Salcete, the lessons learned from the Borim accident involving electricity department employees, proposal of improvement of road at the IDC Verna and the Kundaim Industrial Estate.
DySP Traffic Prabodh Shirwaikar was asked to comply with these points and file a report.
The Executive Engineer, PWD, NH Laxmikant Naik, was told to give a status on action to remove the potholes on the roads in South Goa and on the road engineering at the accident spots along the highway passing through Cuncolim.
While District Collector South, Ajit Roy, who is a member secretary of panel said he would seek the immediate intervention of the Director of Municipal Administration and the Director of Panchayats to deal with the stray cattle menace, the MP sought full details from the National Highway officials on the signages installed along the highway.
The Collector assured the panel members that he would seek a status report on the condition of the Margao flyover from the KRC. Sardinha said that he would seek details of the proposal made by the PWD, National Highways, to the Centre on the repair of the flyover so that his office can also do a follow-up.
After the meeting, Sardinha said that since he is chairing the meeting for the first time, the various agencies concerned have been given the timeframe to provide the status report, be it repairs of the potholed roads, installation of signages etc.
He said the government should either ask the panchayat bodies or the PWD to clear the wild grass along the roadside, especially where the roads are narrow and accident-prone in the interest of the motorists.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Collector, Surendra Naik, Margao Traffic Cell in-charge, PI Gautam Solanki and Goacan Secretary Lorna Fernandes.
