Pre-monsoon showers in several parts of the State brought respite from the scorching heat on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa Circle has forecast expected rains till June 5, Monday at isolated places, which will be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
“Light to moderate rains/thundershowers are very likely at a few places over North and South Goa districts on June 1, 4 and 5. Light rain/thundershower very likely at isolated places over North and South Goa districts on June 2 and 3rd,” it said.
Earlier the IMD forecast thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) were very likely at isolated places over North and South Goa districts on June 1, Thursday.
But while there was a reprieve from constant heat, the first rains unequivocally exposed the unpreparedness of the authorities as various areas such as Margao were inundated and temporary road repairs were washed away. Netizens took to social media to express their plight with photos going viral.
The real test will be for the capital city which is still undergoing “Smart” works under the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited.
