Various parts of the State witnessed thunderstorms on Tuesday evening even as the rains disrupted normal life.
The formation of a trough in easterly winds has been attributed to the unseasonal rains and lightning.
Two-wheeler riders were caught unawares by the sudden showers and were seen taking shelter in the buildings nearby, while roads in many low-lying areas were flooded with rainwater.
The IMD had issued a rain prediction notice a few days earlier, stating that "with the possible formation of a trough in easterly winds over Goa Karnataka region by around April 4, rain and thunder showers very likely at one or two places over North and South Goa on April 4 and April 5.”
The Met Department had also advised people not to go into open fields on the day of the thunderstorms predicting winds gusting to 40-50 kmph over isolated places in the north and south.
The department has forecast that rain and thunderstorm will continue in Goa on Wednesday.
The showers, however brought some relief from the sweltering heat that the State was witnessing in the last few weeks. It may be recalled that the Department had warned of a heat wave with temperatures witnessing a high of 38 degrees Celsius.
