CANACONA
Rains continued to lash Canacona on Wednesday, prompting panic buying of plastic sheets at Chaudi, the commercial hub of the taluka
Heavy rains due to cyclone Tauktae led to various seasonal water bodies in the taluka to be flowing for the past two days.
“Though we are still in May, it appeared as if we are in the monsoon season. The rivulets have already started flowing,” said Savio, resident in Canacona.
Meanwhile, residents rushed to buy plastic sheets, while a few shops which remain open for the first half of the day were doing brisk business in rain-related items like umbrellas and raincoats.
Several street vendors selling a variety of plastic sheets have set up base in the town, with over a dozen of them located by the roadside near the underbridge of the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road at Nagarcem near Char Rasta.
Plastic vendors has also set up their shop by the roadside along the Palolem-Agonda junction and Sheller, while some cloth shops allowed to open during the first half were also doing brisk business of plastic sheets.
