PANAJI
Relentless rain pummelled the State on Sunday, flooding several low-lying areas with most of the rivulets overflowing and three major rivers touching the danger mark.
Almost all roads in Panaji were underwater and surrounding areas reported knee-deep water.
Winds with speed of 75 km per hour were witnessed in some parts of the State along with heavy rain.
CANACONA
Heavy rains lashed Canacona flooding almost every low-lying area with all rivulets overflowing and the three major rivers touching the danger mark.
Taluka observatory recorded 101.06, mm of rainfall till 6 pm as the seasonal rains breached 2000 mm mark recording seasonal total at 2071.76 mm.
The Chapoli Dam considered as lifeline of Canconcars is also nearing its maximum capacity.
Rivers in Talpona, Galgibaga and Saleri were seen flowing and according to WRD sources floodwater was seen slowly rising in Talpona and Galgibaga rivers.
Officials are keeping a close watch on the Talpona and Galgibaga rivers keeping in mind the flash floods that Canacona had witnessed in October 2009.
The Agonda river was overflowing and the water had entered the banks which are cultivated with paddy.
Nurseries in the area also reported destruction plants being washed away by the flood waters.
BICHOLIM
Heavy rains disrupted normal life in Bicholim taluka since Saturday night. The situation was however under control and no major damage was reported, according to fire brigade officials.
The Anjunem Dam recorded a rise in water level at 87 meters. Emergency services were put on alert as heavy rains are expected in the next few days.
Sal village was put on alert after water from the Chapora river had entered into the fields near the temple.
MARGAO
Incessant rains throughout Sunday disrupted normal life at many places in and around Margao, even as the river Sal was found flowing in full spate for the last couple of days, inundating the flood plains
right from Seraulim, Mungul and Benaulim.
Traffic was thrown out of gear at the entry points to the commercial city at Arlem, Gogol and Rawanfond, with water disrupting movement of traffic.
The situation was no better the Rawanfond junction at Shantinagar. A good part of the road heading towards Shantinagar was submerged on Sunday morning.
The Gogol junction near the Bolshe circle was also found water logged on Sunday morning.
Water logging was also witnessed at the perennial spots in the commercial capital as well.
MAPUSA
Several areas in Mapusa witnessed water-logging while part of a wall of the old municipality building whose demolition was in progress crashed on the adjacent building late last night.
Several areas in Khorlim and Gaunsavaddo were water-logged as rains continued to pound the State non-stop.
The main road near the Usapkar tea point witnessed knee-deep water while several areas in Gaunsavaddo also experienced water-logging.
