Rains, strong winds disrupt life in Sattari

Some houses were damaged as trees came crashing down due to rains accompanied by strong winds, damaging and disrupting life in many parts of Sattari taluka on Wednesday evening.

A sudden downpour and strong winds at about 5 pm and several trees came crashing down. While some trees fell on houses and damaged property in places like Guleli and Valpoi, others fell on roads and disrupted traffic along the routes.

Trees also fell on electricity cables, leading to power outages in different parts of the taluka.

Among the areas affected were Nagargao, Savarde, Thane, Guleli and Valpoi.

A portion of the road in front of the Valpoi Forest Training Centre was flooded, disrupting traffic for some time.

Firefighters were busy at work to clear the uprooted trees and damaged houses in different parts of Sattari taluka, while electricity department staff were also busy restoring power supply to the affected areas.
