Incessant rains coupled with strong winds uprooted trees and disrupted power supply in Mapusa and several other parts of Bardez as the city and the taluka received heaviest rainfall so far in the season on Thursday.
Various parts of the city including the Mapusa market experienced water-logging even as some roads in Khorlim were in knee deep water.
Mapusa fire station was flooded with calls of tree falling on houses, roads and overhead electrical wires throughout the day.
“We received 31 calls during the day mostly with complaints of tree falling either on roads and houses or on overhead power lines from different places in Bardez,” a fire station official informed.
Mapusa and other parts of Bardez experienced strong winds along with heavy showers which brought down trees in Mapusa, Tivim, Verla-Canca, Siolim-Sodiem, Nachinola and other parts in Bardez.
Some roads in Khorlim were in knee-deep water as rains continued to pound the city throughout the day.
Parts of Altinho and Duler in Mapusa had to go without power for almost four hours as officials of the electricity department were struggling to chop off a tree that was uprooted and leaning on the overhead electrical wires.
Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Ryan Braganza informed that there was no major water-logging issues in the market or any other parts of Mapusa.
“Some roads in Khorlim were inundated due to the heavy downpour but the water receded within 20 minutes. Overall, water-logging was not a big worry in the city,” Braganza said.
Meanwhile, complaints of people receiving muddy water through PWD pipeline continue to persist in many parts of Bardez.
