Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday stated that the home ministry is very keen to upgrade coastal security network by various initiatives, to tackle the threat of maritime terrorism.
Singh was addressing a gathering after commissioning the Offshore Petrol Vessel (OPV) ICGS Sarathi at Vasco, the third in the series of six OPVs built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard.
“The Home Ministry is very keen to upgrade coastal security network by various initiatives, such as community interaction programmes, issuing ID cards to fishermen and strengthening coastal security police stations. There are plans to start maritime training centres in coastal states,” said Singh.
