Rane should quit if govt fails to scrap IIT project: GFP

MAPUSA
Claiming that after the Zilla Panchayat elections, the BJP-led government has become very arrogant, the Goa Forward Party on Tuesday said if the government fails to withdraw the IIT project from Melauli then Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane should resign from the cabinet.

“The Health Minister’s decision to write to the CM opposing the IIT project at Shel-Melauli has come a little late in the day. Nevertheless, if the Pramod Sawant-led government fails to scrap the IIT project, then Rane should step down as minister and show that he is with the people,” said Kiran Kandolkar, Working President of the Goa Forward Party (GFP).

The Goa Forward Party working president was addressing the media after leading the party in a candlelit march in support of the people of Melauli in Mapusa.

Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgoankar, Siolim MLA Vinoda Paliencar, GFP Vice President Durgadas Kamat, Colvale ZP Kavita Kandolkar and several other leaders and supporters were present at the march.

Vice President of GFP, Durgadas Kamat stated that the winning candidates of BJP in the recent ZP elections got around 1.60 lakh votes but the combined votes of the opposition candidates was around 2.60 lakh.

He said this indicated that if the opposition unites then the BJP government can be easily sent home.

Colvale ZP Kavita Kandolkar slammed the police for stamping on the chest of the women while they were protesting peacefully.

Former Goa government employees association President and Convenor, Employees Forward, John Nazareth said in a democracy, people’s power was supreme and if locals of Melauli were against the IIT then the government should respect their sentiments.

Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and Siolim MLA Vinoda Paliencar and others also spoke at the event.
