Ravindra Bhavan to be opened in Canacona on Tuesday

Will play host to 5-day cultural extravaganza

Canacona’s long awaited Ravindra Bhavan is finally going to be inaugurated on Tuesday, completed after 12 years of laying its foundation stone and taking 7 long years to complete since the actual works began in 2017 making ‘a dream-come-true’ to many Canconcars.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with Arts & Culture Minister Govind Gaude will be inaugurating Ravindra Bhavan at Chaudi-Canacona in the presence of GLA Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday morning.  Science & Technology Minister Aleixo Sequeira, MLA &  GSIDC Chairman Kedar Naik, CMC Chairperson Sara S. Naik Desai, Arts & Culture Secretary Swetika Sachan and Director Sagun R Velip.

The inaugural programme will be followed by a cultural extravaganza for 5-days including Dramas (Nataks and Tiatr), Folk Dances, Classical Music scheduled untill Aug 31.

Addressing media on Sunday, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar stating it should be a grand opening of Canacona Ravindra Bhavan, informed that as part of ambitious Canacona Vision and Mission plan, Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona will be completed after 7 years since work began on it. "We invite the people of Canacona to come for the inauguration in large numbers as we are getting a proper and modern auditorium for conducting our cultural activities, of which Canacona is traditionally rich. It (Ravindra Bhavan) will certainly improve Canacona’s image in the eyes of the cultural world."

Tawadkar then went on to explain the 5-days cultural program beginning with Natasmrat (Drama) by Upendra Date on Tuesday evening (7pm).  On Wednesday morning Schools students will compete in Pathanatya from 10.am and evening at 7pm Durgasur Vadh by Director Vyankatray Naik will be held. On Thursday (29th) morning (10am) Competition of Folk Dances of Canacona will be held, at 2.30 a Musical Programme, and by 7 pm, Pravin Gaonkar will present Classical Music Programme.

Competition of Folk Dances of Canacona will be held on Friday at 10am, while Girgirem a Tiatr by Roseferns will be presented in the main auditorium at 7 pm.

On Saturday, (31st Aug) again Folk Dances of Canacona competition will be organised at 10am, and at 7 pm ‘Toh Mi Navhech (Drama) by Director Jayandranath Haldankar will be staged in the main auditorium.

Answering to a specific query Speaker Tawadkar informed that all Canconcars are invited for cultural programme, but due to limited seating capacity entry for the Drama’s/Musical programme scheduled at 7 pm, entry will be on first-come-first-serve basis. 

"Canacona’s Ravindra Bhavan is completed at the original estimated costs of Rs 63 crore, though the works are to the tune of Rs 100 cr," stated Tawadkar further informing that after completion of inauguration scheduled cultural programmes, activities in Ravindra Bhavan will be resumed after a 8-day gap.
