As the closure of the Rawanfond bridge for heavy traffic has hit the common man, especially bus commuters, citizens have demanded re-opening of the bridge for buses and heavy vehicles.

They have questioned the delay by the PWD and the contractors in repairing the portion of the road near the Rawanfond bridge, which was affected by a minor landslide during the monsoons.

Barricades installed by the traffic police has cautioned the plying of heavy vehicles on the Rawanfond bridge for the last couple of months. Citizens have now demanded to know when will the PWD repair the road stretch near the Rawanfond bridge and throw up heavy vehicular traffic on the important route.

Bus commuters face the ordeal of alighting at the Rawanfond side of the bridge as well as at the Aquem Power House junction before crossing the bridge on foot to make it to the other side. Even tourists are forced to carry their luggage on foot to make it to the other side of the bridge given that the road has barred plying of heavy traffic.

“We request the PWD officials to immediately rectify the situation. It is surprising that the minor landslide near the Rawanfond bridge has not been rectified till date. The PWD and the bridge contractor should complete the work at the earliest and open heavy traffic on the bridge,” citizens demanded.
