Red flags warning of the danger of strong currents and no swim zones dotted the world-famous Colva beach on Sunday as huge waves battered the coast, triggered by rough sea conditions over the last two days.
Fishing vessels of the traditional fishermen were anchored on the beach, while lifeguards ensured that visitors do not enter the rough waters. Domestic tourists, who descended on the beach on Sunday, had to return home disappointed as the rough sea conditions and the huge waves prevented them from entering the water.
Certain areas along the beach were marked as no swim zone, with red flags warning the visitors not to venture out into the sea.
The ground reality along the neighbouring beach stretch of Sernabatim and Benaulim was no different. Motorised canoes of the traditional fishermen were all anchored on the Benaulim beach. Lifeguards stopped visitors from venturing out into the sea as a precautionary measure.
