Director of Food and Drugs Administration Jyoti Sardesai has said that the ongoing nationwide surveillance campaign to check the adulteration in edible oils -- compliance to limits of trans fatty acids, labelling provisions and mandatory AGMARK license for multi-source edible oils -- through the State Food Safety Departments has picked up momentum in the State.
She said FSSAI has a mandate to ensure safe and wholesome food to the people of the country. There are various instances of adulteration of edible oils, the unauthorized blending of oils without a mandatory AGMARK license and the sale of loose edible oils.
During the past five days, from August 1 till August 5, 2022, the FDA Director said that Food Safety Officers of FDA Goa have drawn 54 surveillance samples comprising olive oil, mustard oil, multi-source edible oil, extra virgin olive oil, vanaspati, refined sunflower oil, refined rice bran oil, gingelly oil, refined Palmolein oil, filtered groundnut oil, coconut oil and refined soyabean oil of different brands from the talukas of Bardez, Tiswadi, Salcete, Bicholim, Quepem, Canacona, Pernem, Sattari, Mormugao, Dharbandora from the retail markets of Goa.
The samples were forwarded to the FSSAI-approved lab. The survey will continue till August 14, 2022.
