The Margao police have arrested a native of Madhya Pradesh for attempt to murder a tailor, also hailing from the same state, at Nagmodem-Navelim, in the early hours of Saturday.
Accused Satish Kholi, was nabbed near the Margao sewerage plant as he tried to flee after committing the offence.
Margao PI Kapil Nayak said the incident occurred early Saturday in the rented premises owned by one Prudentia Carneiro, where the two have been staying over the last month and half. The incident was attributed to an argument between the duo over the preparation of early morning tea.
In a fit of anger Satish hit the victim Shabhir Khan, a tailor by profession, with an iron rod. As the victim lay in a pool of blood on the floor, the accused fled away from the premises only to be nabbed near the sewerage plant. “Our investigations revealed that Satish had asked the victim Shabir, who was still sleeping, to prepare tea. When Shabir refused an argument broke out after which Satish hit him on the head with an iron rod. Another labourer, who was staying in the same premises, noticed Shabir lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted the owner,” he said.
The police have recovered the weapon of assault from the scene of crime. The accused has been booked for attempt to murder under section 307 of the IPC.
