An agitated Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has threatened to block the entry of Margao Municipal Council garbage trucks to Sonsodo if the Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar does not accept the dry waste collected from the Sonsodo roadside.
That’s not all. The Curtorim MLA trained his guns on the MMC Chief Officer, saying the Chief Officer has refused to take his phone call when he wanted to request him to take the dry waste collected from the Sonsodo roadside.
“After the roadside dry waste was collected by my workers since the waste and litter became an eyesore for the citizens, I requested MMC Chairperson Pooja Naik to take the waste at Sonsodo in public interest. As she suggested to me to take up the matter with the Chief Officer, I tried calling Panchwadkar, but he refused to take my call,” he said, as he demanded to know whether the people of Curtorim have to only bear the stink of the Sonsodo waste. “I have no issue if the MMC Chief Officer does not want to take my call. But, I want to make clear that people of Curtorim will no longer tolerate the Sonsodo stink”, he warned.
When the media drew attention of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai to the waste lying on the Sonsodo roadside and which has not been accepted by the MMC at the site, he promised to take up the matter with Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo. “These issues will continue to crop up as waste is being dumped at the black spots in the city. This is precisely the reason why I had suggested the installation of the bio-methane plants in the city,” he said.
When the Fatorda MLA inquired with the MMC Chief Officer on the status of the proposed bio-methane plants, Panchwadkar replied saying the government has approved the project and the same will be placed before the Council meeting to float the tender.
