The wait is not over yet for citizens who have obtained orders for regularisation of their houses and structures from the district Collector.
For, while the applicants have received the regularisation orders sanctioned by the Collector, they are still awaiting receipts from the respective village panchayats. The panchayats, in turn, maintain that they cannot issue receipts to the applicants as the amounts paid by them have not yet been deposited in the panchayat accounts.
In one such case reported at the Chinchinim Village Panchayat, an applicant stated that he had received the regularisation order passed by the Collector in August 2026 after making all the required payments. He, however, contended that the panchayat was not issuing him a receipt confirming that he had paid the amount towards the regularisation process.
Chinchinim Sarpanch Gerson Gomes later told the media that the panchayat could issue the receipt to the applicant once the Collector’s office deposited the payment in the panchayat account. “Unless the amount is reflected in the panchayat account, the panchayat cannot issue a receipt to the applicant, though he is armed with a regularisation order,” he said.
In this respect, the Chinchinim Sarpanch disclosed plans to write to the South Goa district Collector to streamline the regularisation process so that panchayats can issue receipts to applicants as soon as the payment is deposited.
