Reis Magos deliberates on traffic congestion issue

PORVORIM
The Reis Magos gram sabha on Sunday discussed the issue of traffic congestion at Betim ferry wharf and near Verem market.
The villagers at the gram sabha said the road from Betim to Nerul is very narrow and the traffic on this road has increased immensely in recent years. They said the residents are witnessing traffic congestion every day at Verem market, near the panchayat.
They further said there is traffic congestion near Betim ferry wharf, especially in the evening. Hence, the panchayat should write to the police department to divert heavy vehicles via Porvorim.
Sarpanch Sheilesh Parulekar said the panchayat will write to Calangute traffic cell to divert heavy vehicles via Porvorim.
Panch Siya Nagvekar said the panchayat is now required to segregate garbage and send only wet garbage to Saligao garbage treatment plant.
"The panchayat has distributed small garbage bins to each and every household to keep wet and dry garbage separately," she said and appealed to the residents to assist the panchayat in this endeavour. The issues of street lights, cutting of trees touching the houses, collection of garbage, etc, were also discussed at the gram sabha.
Earlier, Sarpanch Parulekar welcomed the gathering and Panchayat Secretary Subhod Prabhu read the minutes of the last gram sabha.
