PANAJI:
A freedom fighter whose legacy is showcased at the Sinquerim-based ‘Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa - The Land, The Struggle, The People’, Hari Pandurang Borkar was a member of the National Congress (Goa) since 1954. Hari distributed pamphlets, affixed posters, informed the freedom fighters about police activities and provided shelter to them. He was arrested in August 1955 in connection with the assassination of a pro-Salazarist, Custodio Fernandes, and detained in police custody. He was released on December 28, 1956, for lack of evidence. He was later honoured by the Government of Goa, Daman and Diu on 18th June 1984 for his contribution to the freedom struggle.
