Repairs of stairs at Narvem demanded

BICHOLIM: Villagers from Narvem-Bicholim have demanded that the authorities undertake repairs of the steps leading to Narvem Tirth in Narvem.

During Janmashtami, hundreds of devotees from across the State and also from Maharashtra and Karnataka visit this place to pay tributes to river Panchaganga. The devotees offer flowers, belpatras and other items. Some devotees also release the 'Upnayan' (thread) on the day of Janmashtami.

While performing the religious rituals, devotees have to stand on the steps, which have become slippery and are in dilapidated condition. Hence, villagers have requested the authorities to undertake repairs of the steps.

“We come here every year on Janmashtami day to offer flowers to the river as a tradition. However, we are scared to stand on these steps as they are in dilapidated condition and slippery, which gives a shabby look. We request this work on priority,” said Barkelo Gaonkar from Sakhali.

When contacted, Narvem Sarpanch Ashok Padolkar said, “In fact a proposal to repair the steps has already been sent to the government, but final approval and estimate are yet to be received.”
