Residents of New Vaddem have raised a strong concern over a dilapidated non functional overhead water tank. The big structure has now begun crumbling and pieces of concrete have been falling off. The tank, which is non functional, along the road poses danger to pedestrian, motorists and residents alike.

Residents have slammed the PWD over the delay in demolishing the water tank after a few pieces of concrete began falling on the roads and houses in its vicinity.

Activist and convenor Of NGO Savera has slammed MLA Mauvin Godinho over the delay in processing for the demolition of the overhead tank and also threatened to come on the road and agitate if PWD does not expedite the process of demolition of this dilapidated structure .

“Are the PWD waiting for the tank to collapse and kill a lot of people in the area. Why are they not taking up the work to demolition this tank despite several letters? There have been so many news reports but PWD wants to take things lightly. Who will be responsible if any casualties occur here? There is an electricity transformer next to the tank and the whole of the area will be on fire if this structure falls on the transformer,” Said Savera convenor.

Resident Siddharth Naik has said that several letters have been given to the PWD but there seems to be no response. Naik said that there was immense danger to school buses as pieces of concrete had begun falling on the roads.

“This tank was build 30 years ago and at the time there were not many people living here . Today this a densely populated area. The Authorities must take action soon,” said Naik.
