Residents at Gandhinagar and Mangor in Vasco held a candlelit event on Monday, to mark one year of the lockdown on account of the Covid pandemic.
Many people were teary eyed as they remembered those who had succumbed to Covid, while some recalled the ordeals they had faced after their area went on to become Goa's first containment zone all of a sudden, cutting them off from other parts of the State.
Speaking to reporters, Social worker Riyaz Kadri said memories of Covid pandemic could never be deleted from the minds of residents and that, the pandemic had given another experience of life for the people.
"It has been one year since the lockdown and it has had good and bad experiences. We faced criticism, discrimination and branded as Covid ambassadors of Goa.”
“We had many people, some family members and some close friends, passing away due to the pandemic and many who survived and recovered.”
“The containment was the worst time for us all and we hope and pray there is never a lockdown again,” said Kadri.
He recalled that many poor people and daily wage workers had been affected due to the lockdown.
“We conducted this programme to offer and pay tributes to people who have departed, while appealing to the people who survived the pandemic to be careful and take precautions, following news of the second wave of Covid," said Kadri.
