Resolve local vendors issue or face Cong protest: Bhike

Resolve local vendors issue or face Cong protest: Bhike
MAPUSA
Taking up the cudgels for local vendors, North Goa District Congress President Vijay Bhike on Saturday urged the Mapusa Municipal Council to resolve problems faced by local vendors or face protest.
"If the issue of daily local vendors is not resolved within next 15 days, Congressmen will forcibly sit in the market with vegetables," Bhike said.
Bhike was addressing a news conference in Mapusa along with North Goa District Congress Youth, Vice-President, Chandan Mandrekar and PCC member Sudhin Naik. He
said Congress were ready to back local vendors from Aldona and other villages of Bardez in their fight against injustice.
"We will support the cause of local vendors. If they have any grievances like overcharging by Sopo contractor or high-handedness from civic officials they should approach us. We will take immediate action," Bhike assured.
He said Mapusa has failed to see any progress due to the functioning of the government and particularly the councillors.
Applauding the recent action of Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo in supporting local vendors, Bhike said Ticlo had raised a genuine issue. "Local vendors are ignored and migrants are given opportunity in the market. Those who are in charge are taking haftas to run the market," Bhike alleged.
He also alleged that to avoid direct payment of cash to individuals, the haftas were routed through pigmy collection account.
Bhike also welcomed the announcement of urban development minister to bring councillors under the ambit of Lokayukta. He said all the family members of the councillors should also be brought under the Lokayukta.
