Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate on Wednesday said plans were afoot to set up a Revenue Bhavan in Mormugao Taluka for the betterment of the people.

He was speaking to reporters after his Panchayat Chalo Abhiyaan in Vasco to address the issues and grievances of people in Mormugao taluka.

"As far as the revenue department is concerned, we have our deputy collector and mamlatdar offices in the Ravindra Bhavan and there are some dues which are pending from our side which have to be cleared and I have assured to clear the dues,” said Monserrate.

“We are also looking to identify a place for a Revenue Bhavan in Vasco where these offices will be located. I also spoke to the Mamlatdar who said that a proposal has been placed before the collector after comunidade land has been identified.”

“I will follow up with the South Goa Collector and take it up with him in Margao tomorrow and expedite the matter so that we are assured of a Revenue Bhavan in this taluka," said Monserrate.

Commenting on his Panchayat Chalo Abhiyaan visit, the minister said major issues discussed pertained to garbage-related issues faced by Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).

“We are doing our bit as far as waste management department is concerned but the MMC has a shortage of staff and lacks sufficient drivers for vehicles. They must take the matter with the Urban Development Minister who can help them,” said Monserrate.

When asked about a proposed garbage treatment plant in Verna, Monserrate said there was nothing planned on that front.

"We already have three garbage treatment plants at Bainguinim, Saligao and Cacora and I think as and when a need arises, we can think about it. I think we have said there should be a plant set up in this Taluka of around 25-50 tonne in capacity which can cater to the three constituencies," said Monserrate.
