The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on Friday morning staged a protest outside the premises of Indoco Remedies at Verna Industrial Estate, accusing the pharmaceutical company of repeatedly advertising job vacancies in neighbouring states while sidelining qualified local youth from Goa.
Addressing the gathering, RGP leader Manoj Parab alleged that the company had once again ignored Goan candidates despite earlier controversies and assurances.
“Indoco Pharma is recruiting outsiders while our youth continue to struggle. This betrayal will not be forgotten or forgiven. They must immediately withdraw their out-of-state advertisements or face resistance,” Parab warned.
He claimed that the company had already scheduled interviews for non-Goan applicants and recalled a previous incident when similar recruitment ads were withdrawn following public outrage.
“Back then, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had assured us that such incidents would not be repeated. But Indoco has again resorted to the same stunts, blatantly ignoring the CM’s assurance,” he alleged.
Parab said RGP is willing to engage with the company but insisted that preference in employment must go to Goans.
“We don’t want to damage relations with the company, but we will meet their HR and explain that Goan industries must prioritise Goan youth. These out-of-state job ads must stop permanently. Our youth are skilled and ready to work, but the HR officials, mostly from other states, hire people from their own regions.”
He further alleged that Goans already working in other industries were being harassed and even terminated. “If that is not enough, they are not even entertaining local candidates. They are harassing existing Goan staff and throwing them out of jobs,” Parab said.
Countering claims that Goans are not interested in working, Parab said, “Some people spread a false narrative on social media that Goans don’t want to work. I invite them to come here and see for themselves how Goans are being treated.”
He also criticised successive governments for not creating strict policies to protect local employment.
“The government set up industries to provide jobs to Goans, but neither the Congress nor the BJP made any binding rules. They rely on migrant vote banks and have ignored the issue. We have proposed a bill demanding that 80% of jobs be reserved for people with Goan origins,” Parab said.
“The CM says Goa has 100% literacy, but what’s the use if there are no jobs? Companies are also refusing to give business to Goan contractors. Instead, they hire outsiders through backdoor arrangements. These contractors build bungalows within a few years, while our people struggle for basic employment,” he added.
