With just three days to go for the start of the decennial Exposition of St Francis Xavier's relics at Old Goa, contractors on Sunday began work at a frenzied pace to repair and re-lay the old Ribandar road a crucial access for pilgrims from North Goa.
Road rollers, labourers and earthmoving machines were milling all over the approximately 3-kilometre stretch of road which winds through thickly populated hamlets of Ribandar, Fondvem and Sao Pedro.
This stretch of the road, which is an important access to Old Goa for people from the West and North Goa, was lying in a state of disrepair for over a year after smart city work including sewerage, drainage and laying of underground service lines was executed.
One supervisor told The Goan that re-laying a fresh carpet of hotmix on this stretch of the road will be completed in the next couple of days, in time for opening of the Exposition on Thursday.
