Rider dies in mishap at Calangute

MAPUSA:

A rider died of injuries after he was knocked down by a car at Calangute on January 3.

According to reports, the accident took place on January 3 at around 2.30 pm at Dolphin Circle junction in Calangute. Kishore Raoji Haldankar (56) of Sawatawada-Calangute was going home from Dolphin Circle on his two-wheeler, while the accused Vijay Shaw (37) from Madhya Pradesh was going from Mapusa to Calangute in a car.

Shaw did not see a speed breaker and the car jumped over the speed breaker. He lost control of the car and the vehicle hit the two-wheeler. Haldankar was seriously injured in the mishap and was first shifted to the Candolim Primary Health Centre, from where he was referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim. He died while undergoing treatment on Saturday. After an autopsy, the body was handed over to the family. Calangute Police registered a case against the driver and further investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kanolkar.
