A rider was injured and a car driver had a narrow escape when a huge signboard came crashing on the road near Dabolim Airport on Wednesday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the signboard came crashing down at around 6.30 pm when the car (GA-07-F-4562) was moving towards Verna after dropping a passenger at the airport.
A policeman moving in the same direction on his motorcycle (GA-06-Q-1421) was injured in the mishap. He was shifted to the Sub District hospital in Chicalim and was later referred to the GMC hospital.
The incident has shocked many people, who have demanded that highway authorities regularly inspect such large signboards installed along the highways.
“A similar signboard had fallen near the Titan junction last year. There has to be a regular inspection of these signboards by authorities. Our bus was carrying around 30 passengers and was just behind the car and we missed the mishap by a whisker,” said a bus driver.
