Car traced and intercepted in Pernem hours after accident

The two-wheeler involved in the mishap at Kamarkhajan-Mapusa.

A 60-year-old rider from Tivim was injured in a hit-and-run accident on the service road near Peddem Junction in Kamarkhajan on Wednesday.
Police later intercepted the car that allegedly fled the scene after hitting the victim’s scooter. The driver, Wasim Mulla (24) from Sangli, Maharashtra, has been arrested by Mapusa Police.
According to reports, the accident took place around 2.30 pm when Pirsab Khwaja was riding his scooter from Tar Bastora Junction towards Peddem Junction. Near the fish market in Kamarkhajan, a car hit the scooter from behind. The impact caused the rider to lose control, fall on the road, and suffer serious injuries.
He was first treated at Mapusa District Hospital and later shifted by family members to a private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
After the accident, the driver fled with the vehicle. Following an alert from Mapusa Police, Pernem Police intercepted the car on an internal road in Virnoda on Wednesday evening.
Police detained the vehicle and took four occupants into custody before handing them over to Mapusa Police. The vehicle has been seized.
Sources said the accused and his three friends had come to Goa as tourists and were returning home when the accident occurred.
Police Constable Keshav Naik is investigating the case.
