A motorcycle rider was killed while the pillion rider was seriously injured when their motorcycle and a truck collided with each other at the junction of the road leading to the Honda Industrial Estate in Sattari on Saturday evening.
The truck driver has been arrested in this connection.
According to reports, Prajwal Dattaprasad Dhuri (22) of Velguem-Bicholim was riding the bike with Sunil Amonkar on the pillion, while they were travelling from Honda to Valpoi. The truck was proceeding from the Honda Industrial Estate towards the Valpoi-Honda road with goods of a company.
The two vehicles collided and both riders sustained serious injuries.
Police was informed of the mishap and a team rushed to the site. Both riders were shifted to the Sankhali Primary Health Centre, but Prajwal was declared dead on arrival. Sunil was later referred to the Goa Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness said similar mishaps have taken place in the past as heavy vehicles have been moving in the area at high speeds.
