Rising water sent shivers down the spine of the shack owners along the Candolim-Calangute costal belt on Sunday evening as sea water came very close to the beach and some even entering the shacks.
The water level started rising at the high tied at around 3.30 pm in the evening.
In Candolim water entered into some shacks but luckily no damage was caused to the shacks.
In many areas beach beds remain submerged for more than an hour, as sea water made its way high up on the beach.
Shack owners were a little jittery due to the sudden rise in water but since local authorities had already issued a warning two days ago there was no panic as such.
“At the moment things are ok but we are a little scared that water may rise up again later in the night,” said Manuel Cardozo, a shack owner in Calangute at around 6 pm.
Vincent Fernandes of Candolim informed that water entered into some shacks along the beach but there was no damage caused to property.
Unsuspecting tourists enjoyed the sudden surge as the water came running up high on the beach.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services had issued a warning on Friday regarding high energy swell waves likely to be experienced in the sea in Goa and other parts of India.
Local authorities were also on alert due to the warning issued by the central government agency.
