Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday sent out a warning to his rivals that those who dare to contest elections from Dabolim constituency would lose their deposit.

He was speaking to reporters at a function to welcome 50 Congress workers from Dabolim led by President of Goa Fishermen Congress Vaman Chodankar and youth leader advocate Savio Noronha into the BJP.

"There are some other parties who can promise various freebies, but Goans are aware of various schemes offered by the State government and will not fall prey to this false propaganda," said Godinho.

"When we began ZP elections by getting our candidate elected unopposed from Dabolim constituency, BJP swept ZP elections across the State. Similarly, Dabolim constituency will be a shining example for Goa in the upcoming assembly elections.”

“Many people and leaders are joining the BJP daily and such is our strength that anyone who dares to contest assembly elections from Dabolim will lose their deposit,” Godinho said.

The minister said many are keen to join the BJP as it would help them contribute to the development of the State and nation.

“That is why Congress leaders like Vaman Chodankar and a youth leader like Adv Savio Noronha along with their workers have joined the BJP,” said Godinho.

Meanwhile, Chodankar said he was sad to quit the Congress party after 31 years to join the BJP and said the primary reason for his resignation from the Congress was that the party never valued and respected loyal and hardworking party workers.

"This was one reason why Godinho was also forced to leave the Congress and he had understood that being in Congress, development cannot be taken up. I have joined the BJP basically because the party has certain disciplines and respect for its workers," said Chodankar.
