Despite significant rainfall across the State on Friday, water levels in the Valvanti, Par, and Kashti rivers have remained below the danger mark, according to local authorities.
Several regions, particularly in the Bicholim and Sattari areas, experienced substantial rainfall, yet there has been no immediate threat of flooding.
The Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department (Bicholim division), K P Naik, provided reassurances about the current situation, confirming that all river levels in the area were under control.
“None of the rivers have reached the danger mark, and everything is under control so far,” Naik stated.
His comments came in the wake of an alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), which had placed the State under a yellow alert due to anticipated heavy rains.
“Although the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a yellow alert, there has not been very heavy rain in this area to cause an alarm. The water level drops quite a bit during the low tide, while at the high tide, the required height is maintained without any threat,” Naik elaborated.
This tidal fluctuation has helped maintain safe water levels in the rivers, averting potential flood risks.
Naik emphasised that there is no cause for alarm, as the water levels in all rivers in Bicholim and Sattari remain within permissible limits.
“There is nothing to fear as water levels in all the rivers in Bicholim and Sattari are within the permissible limit and therefore everything is under control,” he assured.
The IMD’s yellow alert serves as a precautionary measure, indicating that weather conditions warrant attention and preparedness but are not severe enough to cause immediate concern.
The Water Resources Department continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that necessary measures are in place to handle any sudden changes in water levels.
