A delegation of members of the Goans for Sustainable Development called on Chief Town Planner S T Putturaju with a list of questions relating to the Regional Plan and its formation in a meeting on Monday.
Included in their list of questions were issues pertaining to the process of drawing up the regional plan, the delay in acting on it after it was notified by the last government as well as the several inclusions like that of MIZs, eco tourism zones, etc.
The Goans for Sustainable Development had in-warded more than 9,000 individual suggestions as part of the Regional Plan rectification process with most of these suggestions asking for a scrapping of the plan because the TCP Act hasn’t been amended yet to incorporate the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution besides several other issues.
Briefing media persons after emerging from their meeting with the Chief Town Planner, Avinash Tavares a member of the GFSD said that while the Chief Town Planner attempted to clarify several issues that they raised, several more issues remained unanswered.
“We raised several issues before him. He said that he was only an implementing authority and several policy decisions like that of when and whether and how to open the regional plan was in the hands of the government,” Tavares told The Goan.
Putturaju also reportedly told the group that several decisions were collectively taken by the State Level Committee and then incorporated in the final Regional Plan.
