RBI HELPS AN ITALIAN
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) helped an Italian national staying in Goa, who was in dire need of Indian currency.
The Italian was suffering from cancer and had a prepaid card, but was unable to use it as ATMs were running out of cash. When approached, the Italian government advised its citizen in Goa to write to the RBI. It was then that the person concerned wrote to RBI’s Goa office asking for help.
On receipt of the Italian's letter, RBI’s Goa office stepped in to help, arranging Indian currency.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) pumped in Rs 1,074 crore of cash through banks in Goa since demonetisation was announced on November 8. This was confirmed by an RBI official in Goa.
It was also informed that this sum of Rs 1,074 crores was received in three instalments. The first instalment saw RBI injecting Rs 200 crore just days after demonetisation was announced.
The second instalment brought Rs 174 crore into the State sometime in the last week of November. The official further said, “We informed the RBI that the demand of currency is more in Goa because it is a tourist state. Due to this, last week, RBI sent a remittance of Rs 700 crores.”
However, sources revealed that banks in Goa are also arranging cash from bank-branches and head-offices in neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra. This means that, overall more than Rs 1,074 crore of cash has come into Goa since demonetisation came into effect.
The new Rs 500 notes continue to be woefully short of demand in Goa. The RBI official said that a remittance of Rs 15 crore worth of new Rs 500 notes reached Goa last Friday, December 2.
