Rs 2.5 cr sanctioned to beautify Quedevelim, Nerul beaches

PORVORIM

Housing Minister and Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has said the State government has sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore to beautify the beaches at Quedevelim (Kegdole) and Nerul.

Speaking at Quedevelim after launching the work to construct a new culvert, Salgaonkar said the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) would undertake the beautification work at the two beaches.

“Many locals and tourists visit these beaches, but neither there are toilet facilities nor changing rooms here. These beaches have been neglected for many years.”

“As part of the beautification work, toilets and changing rooms will be constructed, while a high mast will be installed and seating arrangement will be made at these beaches,” said Salgaonkar.

“If beautification of these beaches will attract more tourists which will in turn generate business opportunities for locals,” he said.

Commenting on the work to construct a new culvert at Quedevelim, Salgaonkar said the existing pipes were filled with mud and waste material due to which water stopped flowing. The new culvert being constructed at a cost of Rs 9 lakh will facilitate the flow of water.”

Nerul Sarpanch Virendra Shirodkar welcomed the gathering, while Deputy Sarpanch Siya Nagvekar proposed the vote of thanks.

Incidentally, while launching the work to construct a retaining wall at Quedevelim beach in September last year, Salgaonkar had said the tourism department had planned a similar beautification project of Quedevelim and

Nerul beaches and had submitted an estimate of Rs 12 crore to the government for approval.

The tourism department’s beautification project at Quedevelim and Nerul beaches had included construction of changing rooms, toilets, erection of high masts, seating arrangement for tourists, appointment of beach cleaning staff and lifeguards.
