Burglars broke into the Shri Shantadurga temple at Ambekhan Vaddo in Verem and stole around Rs 30,000 in cash.
According to Saligao police, the burglars entered the temple at about 2.30 am on Wednesday after removing roof tiles.
They then broke open the donation box, took the money and fled.
The theft was discovered at around 6.30 am when the temple purohit arrived to perform pooja. After seeing the donation box open, he informed the temple managing committee and the Saligao police.
A police team visited the temple and checked the CCTV footage, which showed two persons inside the premises.
