A meeting scheduled at the South Goa Collectorate to decide on reopening the Sunni Gulistan Masjid at the Gogol Housing Board did not take place.
The meeting had been planned for Wednesday morning but was later postponed in the evening. Eventually, it was cancelled.
South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus and Superintendent of Police (South) Santosh Desai confirmed that the meeting did not take place on Tuesday.
Sources said the Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Ditendra Naik, met the district police chief to discuss the controversy surrounding the mosque after the murder at its entrance gate.
District authorities led by the Collector and the SP (South), along with Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, were expected to discuss the Muslim community’s demand to reopen the Gulistan Masjid, which was sealed by the authorities after the murder.
