No illegal commercial structures in Parra: Sarpanch

PANAJI

Sarpanch of Parra Village Panchayat, Daniel Lobo, has said there are no illegal commercial establishments in the village.

His statement comes after a petition was filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa claiming that unauthorised commercial activities are being carried out on low-lying paddy fields in Parra, despite demolition orders against several structures.

In the public interest litigation (writ petition), petitioner Chait Bansal, represented by advocate Rohit Bras de Sa, argued that the Town and Country Planning Department (TCP) and other authorities have failed to act against unauthorised constructions and businesses in these areas, even though the department has powers under Section 17-A of the TCP Act.

When the matter came up for admission on Tuesday, the court said action, if required, would follow after hearing all concerned parties. The case has been posted for further hearing on March 17.
