Power Minister Nilesh Cabral also assured Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias that the department will repair all the defunct street lights before the ensuing Ganesh Chathurti festival.

The Power Minister on Friday commissioned the 10KVA power transfers in Cuncolim, which has cost the exchequer around Rs 1.75 crore in the presence of the Cuncolim MLA, Power officials and Cuncolim Municipal Councilors. The new power transformer, which was proposed in the 1980’s is expected to improve the power supply in the Cuncolim Municipal area and the surrounding seven villages.

In his address, Cabral said he has already executed around Rs 20 crore worth projects in the Cuncolim Municipal area, including installation of new transformers after he took reigns of the power department. He said the Power department has also executed work on the laying of 33 KV underground line in the Cuncolim Industrial estate costing around Rs 10.5 crore.

Cabral assured the Cuncolim MLA that the non-functioning street lights will be  repaired before the ensuing Ganesh Chathurti. “We will put in staff to get the street lights repaired. The department staff is working to the best of their ability and we will get them to put in little  extra work before the ensuing festival”, he said.

In his address, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio appealed to the Power Minister to complete the remaining projects in the Cuncolim Municipal area to improve the power supply to the area. “People in Cuncolim think that power is diverted to the Industrial estate. On the other hand, industrialists feel that they are being denied the power”, the MLA said.
