Rumdamol Panchayat member and former Sarpanch Vinayak Volvoikar was assaulted by a group of persons at the Aquem Power house junction Friday night.
The incident is believed to have occurred at a fast food joint when a group of persons came at the spot and picked up a quarrel with the workers. Volvoikar rushed to the spot when he was informed about the situation, but he was also assaulted by the group.
After he sustained injuries on his head and body, Volvoikar was rushed to the South Goa district hospital for treatment. He told the media that the group assaulted him on his head with a weapon.
Margao police team rushed to take stock of the situation after being informed about the incident.
Meanwhile, Margao police informed that the police has taken cognisance of the matter and will initiate action as per the law. Further investigations are on.
