The Rumdamol village panchayat on Thursday launched a major initiative to convert the village black spots into green spots as part of efforts to make the village litter and garbage free.
The project was launched by the village panchayat and Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan in association with Ekta Village Organisations Rumdamol under the Clean India movement.
As part of the initiative to convert black spot into green spot, Sarpanch Avita Chodankar informed that the initiative will help in ridding out the black spots from litter and to make way for gardens at the spot. “We have initiated the exercise on Thursday with the help of the NGOs. Our emphasis is on converting the black spot into a green spot. We have installed a MRF facility to take care of our waste, but waste finds its way at the black spot from the neighbouring villages,” she said, while making a fervent plea to her counterparts to handle the waste generated in their villages.
Maria Monteiro, Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan complimented the Rumdamol panchayat for launching the project to convert black spots into green spots. She, however, said that people should not expect the sarpanch and the panchayats to keep the village clean and green, saying it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to take care of their waste.
