Asserting that owning responsibility for the Sancoale ticket fiasco is not enough, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lournenco on Saturday said those responsible should be sacked from the party as their actions have only amounted to committing a crime.
The three-time Curtorim MLA said he is not saying who has to be sacked, but hastened to add that it would amount to acceptance of a crime against the party if the leadership does not initiate action against the leaders.
“I have read in the media that GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar owning up responsibility for the Sancoale ticket fiasco. I feel that owning responsibility is not enough. After owning responsibility, these people had submitted their resignations, but they are still there heading the party,” Reginaldo said.
“A football team has a captain, coach and a manager. I do not occupy any of these three posts in the party. Those holding these posts should be sacked from office,” he said.
When asked whether he is demanding that the party president should be sacked from office, Reginaldo shot back, “I am not saying who has to be sacked. If the party does not take action, it would only amount to acceptance of a crime against the party.”
The Congress MLA said he has been telling the party high command from 2012 that they are not taking the right decisions. “This is the fallout of the party’s inaction and for not taking decisions. No action means acceptance of the crime that has been committed against the party. If that is the case the party will not be able to face the electorate.”
When pointed out that a host of party leaders were involved in deciding the Congress candidate in his Curtorim constituency, but were caught napping in Sancoale, Reginaldo said, “Looks like they are in love with me. I have no comments, but it appears they want to teach me a lesson.”
Asked whether the party had taken him into confidence while finalizing the candidates for Raia and Curtorim ZP seats, Reginaldo said he has spoken enough on the mater.
Meanwhile, Reginaldo directed his ire at one of the party leaders, who, he claimed, thinks he is big as a coconut tree. “This leader says that he enjoys good relations with the ruling dispensation and does not want to spoil his relations. These leaders have all enjoyed power and positions at the cost of the party, but do not want to sacrifice for it.”
Saying that the Congress party in Goa is in dire need of a revamp, Reginaldo asserted allegations of match-fixing will continue to crop up in the future as well.
