PANAJI
Goa Forward Party supremo Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said: “In the 60th year of Liberation of Goa, we need to liberate our state from the corrupt and divisive BJP. The pre-poll alliance with the Congress is in the interest of Goa, and to that end, we have to make several adjustments”.
In a press release, Goa Forward Party stated that the party supremo sought blessings at the Bodgeshwar Temple at Mapusa on Thursday.
“Should we be selfish to think of the self first or should we rather think of our Goa and Goans first?” Sardesai questioned.
He added that the alliance is made before the poll and it is expected that things would be different post-poll. “We are making these adjustments in the interest of Goa,” Sardesai said.
He added that they were expecting seats for Goa Forward Party candidates in Siolim, St Andre, Canacona and Ponda, where GFP candidates have a good influence.
“I apologise to our candidates who didn’t get the ticket, and would try for them in the next election. Vinod Palienkar supported us till date. We have done injustice to him. The situation disappointed me too. However, he knows that the sacrifice is for the larger good of Goa, to defeat the spread of the BJP virus. In fact, some candidates are offered ticket merely to break the votes”. Sardesai said.
Couldn’t ensure ticket to Palienkar due to alliance compulsions: Vijai
MAPUSA:
Affirming the loyalty of Siolim MLA Vinod Palienkar to the party, Goa Forward Party Supremo Vijai Sardesai on Thursday apologised to Palienkar for failing to ensure him the party ticket in Siolim on account of alliance compulsions with the Congress.
He was speaking to reporters after seeking blessings at the Bodgeshwar temple in Mapusa on Thursday along with party candidates Deepak Calangutkar (Mandrem) and Santosh Kumar Sawant (Mayem).
"I apologise to him (Palienkar) as our alliance with Congress has cost him his candidature. If it were in my hands, I would surely have included him in the alliance but I am helpless.”
“In the previous government, the BJP tried to pressure us into removing him as minister but I saved him and as a result, the BJP removed all three of us GFP MLAs as ministers.”
