Crime Branch of Goa Police has identified 10 accused inmates, who damaged the jail property in the rampage on the night of January 24 this year when history-sheeter Vinayak Karbotkar was murdered at the Sada sub-jail at Vasco.
Highly placed sources have revealed that the Crime Branch is in the process of finalising the chargesheet in the case against these ten inmates. They are expected to be charged with the offence of destruction of government property.
Interestingly, the identity of the inmate who killed Karbotkar continues to remain unknown with the Crime Branch being unsuccessful in tracing the inmate who killed the notorious gangster. In addition to this, the chargesheet is likely to remain silent on the alleged role played by jail staff personnel on duty at the time of the incident.
Karbotkar was fatally assaulted under suspicious circumstances on January
24 this year at the Sada sub-jail. He was lodged at Sada jail upon being accused in the murder of another inmate Ashpaq Bengre at Colvale jail in 2016.
Local police claimed that the inmates assaulted jail staff and destroyed jail property including CCTV cameras, lights and DVR in an attempt to escape. Specialised units were later summoned to bring the situation under control.
