Velip felt that in Goa, the traditional fishermen are not well organised. As the trade is mechanised, these traditional fishermen cannot gel well, he added.
According to Velip, co-operative movement is the need of the hour. He expressed the need for registration of more co-operative societies. Referring to Fisheries Co-operative societies, Velip spoke about the existence of two such prominent fisheries societies -- one each in North and South Goa.
Velip said the Fisheries Cell of Sahakar Bharati will also establish contact with Union Minister Radha Mohan after chalking out the national policy. “Traditional fishermen have to get justice,” he remarked.
The All-India Organising Secretary of Sahakar Bharati, Vijay Dewangan, said the whole effort is also aimed at instilling a feeling of security among fishermen along the coastline.
