Salcete excise officials ready to serve closure notices

The Salcete excise office is bracing up for a massive exercise to serve closure notices to around 461-odd bars from the taluka, even as the bar owners have fixed an appointment with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday before chalking out their future course of action.

Bar owners have decided to call on the CM on Tuesday to discuss the entire gamut of issues in the wake of the SC order. The bar owners have also decided to call a public meeting at Taleigao to chalk out the future course of action.   
In the meantime, Salcete excise officials told The Goan that staff will fan out to various areas along the NH-17 and state highway passing through the taluka to serve closure notices. The notice states that the bars coming within the 500 mts distance from the national and state highway cannot continue to operate from April 1. The notice has warned the owners that failure to comply with the directions will attract action.   
The notice will also ask the bar owners to submit a statement of unsold stock purchased before April 1. The statement of unsold stock need to be declared by the bar owners and submitted to the Excise office by April 7.
