Condemning Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for his comments that only one truck from one family will be allowed in the ore transportation, the Salcete truck owners Association has threatened to take the RTO and officials of the Mines department if they dare attach trucks plying on the mining route areas.
The Association has also made a fervent plea to the Chief Minister to roll back his decision not to allow trucks other than from the route areas to do business in the new season.
Addressing the media, Association President Franky Gomes demanded to know how the RTO and the Mines department will attach trucks from Salcete plying in the route areas when they are already registered with the Mines department. "We demand with the government to allow all trucks registered with the Mines department and should not restrict the business to trucks from the route areas," Franky said, adding that they will knock the doors of the court against the RTO and Mines officials if they attach their trucks.
Saying there are less than 100 trucks from trucks, which have been engaged in ore transportation over the years, Franky said the number will touch 1,500 trucks if one includes the vehicle owners from the Cuncolim, Balli, Fatorpa and Betul areas.
Another truck owner Vallabh Varak told the media that truck owners from Salcete have been operating in the mining areas even before the locals ventured into ore transportation.
"We only appeal to the Chief Minister to roll back his decision not to allow truck in ore transportation if the vehicle owners are not hailing from the route areas," he said.
