Stating that the electricity department will upgrade 21 transformers and will install five new transformers in Saligao constituency, Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has said 500 electricity poles will be replaced with new ones in the constituency.
Speaking after commissioning the new transformer installed at Saligao Panchayat in the presence of Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes, Assistant Engineer Subhas Parsekar and panch members, the MLA said the works are being executed as part of a Rs 13 crore project.
“The electricity department has undertaken the work to upgrade 21 existing transformers from 100 KVA to 200 KVA and they are located in Saligao (10), Sangolda (6) and Pilerne (5).
“Five new 200 KVA transformers will be installed at Saligao panchayat, Muddowado, Police station, Navetim“Pilerne and near Saibaba temple.”
“Besides, 500 electricity poles will be replaced with new ones in Saligao constituency. The work to lay a 14-km long 11 KV high tension underground cable at Saligao and Pilerne is in progress.”
Salgaonkar said disruption in power supply had become a regular feature in Saligao constituency, with residents facing load shedding during summer.
“In view of this, I had convened a meeting with villagers which was attended by engineers of the electricity department and former power minister Pandurang Madkaikar.”
“On hearing public grievances, Madkaikar sanctioned a Rs 13 crore project, which included the upgrading of existing transformers, installation of new transformers wherever required, replacement of old conductors and laying of an underground cable of the high tension line. This project is nearing completion,” said Salgaonkar.
Salgaonkar reiterated the need for a new power substation in Saligao constituency.
“When late Manohar Parrikar was chief minister, he had sanctioned a new power substation of 200 KVA at Saligao plateau at an estimated cost of Rs 130 crore.”
“However when Pramod Sawant became chief minister, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral scrapped the project and said a new unmanned power substation with modern technology has been planned at Saligao.”
“So far, a tender for this new unmanned power substation has not floated by the electricity department. This project needs to be expedited,” said Salgaonkar.
Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes and panchayat member Deepak Rane also spoke at the event.
