The Managing Director of SFC Environmental Technologies Pvt Ltd, Sandeep Asolkar stated that if the garbage treatment plant at Saligao plateau operates in two shifts, then electricity to the tune of 15,000 to 20,000 units per day can be generated.
the goan I networkrPORVORIM r r“Presently, this plant works for one shift and treats 100 tonnes of garbage, which is received from 26 panchayats from North Goa. Out of the biogas that is produced on treatment of 100 tonnes of garbage, 8,000 units is being generated, out of which 4,000 units is being utilised for the plant and the remaining 4,000 units is being supplied to the Saligao grid,” informed Asolkar. rHe said the garbage treatment plant has the capacity to treat 250 tonnes of garbage per day. “During the peak season of November-December, this plant receives only 180 tonnes of garbage. If garbage of about 200 tonnes is received on regular basis, then the plant can be operated in two shifts in which case the plant will be able to produce power of 15,000 to 20,000 units per day,” he said. r “Further, this plant is producing about 40 tonnes of Segregated Combustible Fuel (SCF) everyday which is being sent to ACC Cement company. The ACC Cement company uses this SCF in place of coal. There is an old dump, that is SCF of around 40,000 tonnes lying by the side of plant area, out of which 2,000 tonnes have been dispatched to ACC Cement company.” r“The dirty water generated during treatment of garbage is being recycled and clean water is being used for watering 3,000 trees planted in the plant premises and also for washing the floors of the plant.
